After the signature drive and the ribbon distribution , we proceed to plan our next activity. We waited for the children to finish their picnic as they have pre planned their activities for the week. We are very thankful to the teachers as they let us conduct our activities with the children even though they had their own activities that day. While waiting for them to finish their picnic and wash up , we set up our materials in the hall of the school.
We start the activity by introducing them to orangutans. We separated the children into two groups , the 2-3 years old and 4-6 years old. I handled the 2-3 years old group first while my friend , Ruby handled the 4-6 years old group. I showed them a puzzle with a group of primates. I had them complete the puzzle and later show me which is the orangutan. Most of the children manage to get the correct picture. I briefly describe the looks of the orangutans and they listen quietly. While I was doing this , Ruby was showing the pictures of orangutans to the 4-6 years old children. Later , we switch place. It's my turn to show the puzzle to the 4-6 years old children. The children completed the in just a few minutes time. These children recognize the orangutan immediately upon finishing the puzzle. Thus , the introduction of orangutans was very successful.
Next , we move on to the coloring activity. We had the children in pairs , each child has a piece of the coloring paper. We told them to choose their color and color the orangutan picture. The children really enjoyed coloring and we are so happy to see them coloring with effort and concentration. When they finished , we took pictures of their colored orangutans . The teachers later paste their orangutans on a bulletin board. What a wonderful pictures we have with lots of colorful orangutans!!
What follow next was palm printing. The teachers helped us to supervise the children as they print their palm on the piece of cloth we prepared. The teachers also gave supports by printing their palms on the cloth with the children. We are even more excited when the children came to us and told us that they really have fun and enjoyed the activities today. I was so happy that I ended up hugging them and say thank you.
Sadly , the activity has to end. While distributing the gift packs to the children , they came and hugged us with big smiles on their faces. The joy on their faces really made our day, even though it is not easy working with young children. This activity was so meaningful to us. We are so happy that all the children really love this activity. The children were talking about orangutans the whole morning and we hope they will continue to remember this special creature and protect them in the future.
I am waiting for another chance to participate in a campaign like this. This is not something that comes into our life everyday.
